Electrica produced about 21 GWh of electricity in the first half of 2026, more than four times its output a year earlier, as the Romanian energy group expanded its generation portfolio.
Production increased by approximately 338% from 4.8 GWh in the first six months of 2025. Output came from the Stanesti, Vulturu and Satu Mare 2 facilities. Satu Mare 2 joined Electrica’s operating portfolio in the fourth quarter of last year.
Generation nevertheless remains small compared with the group’s distribution and retail operations. Electricity transported through Electrica’s networks slipped about 0.5% to 8,905 GWh.
Retail supply fell more sharply, declining 9% to 3,376 GWh from 3,710 GWh a year earlier. Competitive-market deliveries were almost unchanged at 2,435 GWh, meaning that most of the reduction occurred in universal service and supplier-of-last-resort activities. Deliveries in those categories dropped around 26% to 941 GWh.
The number of consumption points served by the group decreased from 3.42 million in June 2025 to 3.23 million in June 2026. Universal-service and last-resort customers accounted for most of the decline, with their number falling from 1.63 million to 1.46 million.
Electrica did not explain whether the contraction reflected customer migration, consumption changes or adjustments to its commercial portfolio. The data nonetheless show generation becoming a more visible part of the business, even though distribution and supply still operate on a much larger scale.
