Romanian utility Electrica has signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract worth around €27.9 million (excluding VAT) for the development of the Satu Mare 3 solar power project, marking a key step forward as the project enters the construction phase.
The contract was concluded through Electrica’s subsidiary New Trend Energy and includes not only the construction of the solar plant, but also the development of a 110 kV substation. In addition, the agreement covers operation and maintenance services for three years after the facility becomes operational.
The solar power plant will be located near the village of Doba in Satu Mare County and will have an installed capacity of 62.5 MW. With the EPC contract now signed, the project moves from the development stage into full construction execution following completion of planning and preparatory works.
Electrica stated that the investment will be financed primarily through proceeds from its 2025 green bond issuance, reinforcing its strategy of using capital markets to support renewable expansion.
The project forms part of Electrica’s broader plan to expand its generation portfolio and strengthen its position in the renewable energy sector. The company has previously outlined an ambition to develop up to 1 GW of installed generation capacity by the end of the decade, with solar energy expected to play a central role in that growth strategy.
