According to the data published by the National Institute for Statistics (INS), electricity consumption in Romania in the first half of 2022 amounted to 26.37 TWh, which is 4.4 % less compared to the same period in 2021.
The data shows that industrial electricity consumption reached 19.58 TWh, which is 3.7 % less compared to the same period last year. Household electricity consumption amounted to 6.5 TWh, which is a 7.3 % decrease. Public lighting consumption rose by 12.3 % amounting to some 299.6 GWh.
Total electricity production reached 28.45 TWh in the first six months of 2022, which is 7.6 % less compared to the same period in 2021. Production in thermal power plants decreased by 1 % and reached 10.59 TWh. Production in hydropower plants decreased by 26.7 % to 7.7 TWh, while electricity production in nuclear power plant Cernavoda increased by 2.3 % to 5.19 TWh. Production of wind power in January-June 2022 rose by 17.5 % compared to the same period of 2021, reaching 4.01 TWh. Solar power production reached 954.3 GWh, 9.8 % more compared to the first six months of 2021.
Electricity exports in January-June 2022 amounted to 3.08 TWh, which is by 14.2 % less compared to the same period in 2021. At the same time electricity imports increased by 12.4 % and amounted to 3.85 TWh.
Total production of primary energy resources in the first half of 2022 amounted to 8,788 million tons of oil equivalent, which is 5.4 % less than in 2021. Coal production reached 1,459 million tons of oil equivalent (+ 1 %), oil production reached 1,464.6 million tons of oil equivalent (- 6.2 %), while production of natural gas reached 3,502.2 million tons of oil equivalent (- 5.5 %).
