According to the data published by the National Institute for Statistics (INS), electricity consumption in Romania in the first eight months of 2022 amounted to 35.15 TWh, which is 5.3 % less compared to the same period in 2021.
The data shows that industrial electricity consumption reached 26.26 TWh, which is 4.5 % less compared to the same period last year. Household electricity consumption amounted to 8.53 TWh, which is a 7.7 % decrease. Public lighting consumption rose by 3.8 % amounting to some 356.4 GWh.
Total electricity production reached 37.28 TWh in the first eight months of 2022, which is 7.4 % less compared to the same period in 2021. Production in thermal power plants decreased by 1.3 % and reached 14.22 TWh. Production in hydropower plants decreased by 26.2 % to 9.73 TWh, while electricity production in nuclear power plant Cernavoda decreased by 2.3 % to 7.09 TWh. Production of wind power in January-August 2022 rose by 18.4 % compared to the same period of 2021, reaching 4.88 TWh. Solar power production reached 1.36 TWh, 5.5 % more compared to the first eight months of 2021.
Electricity exports in January-August 2022 amounted to 4.39 TWh, which is by 2 % more compared to the same period in 2021. At the same time electricity imports increased by 18.3 % and amounted to 5.77 TWh.
Total production of primary energy resources in the first eight months of 2022 amounted to 11,697 million tons of oil equivalent, which is 4.8 % less than in 2021. Coal production reached 2,024.9 million tons of oil equivalent (+ 1.7 %), oil production reached 1,952.1 million tons of oil equivalent (- 6.4 %), while production of natural gas reached 4,609.1 million tons of oil equivalent (- 4.6 %).
