According to the data published by the National Institute for Statistics (INS), electricity consumption in Romania in the first four months of 2022 amounted to 18.02 TWh, which is 4.2 % less compared to the same period in 2021.
The data show that industrial electricity consumption reached 13.2 TWh, which is 3.9 % less compared to the same period last year. Household electricity consumption amounted to 4.61 TWh, which is a 5.6 % decrease. Public lighting consumption rose by 6.8 % amounting to some 210.3 GWh.
Total electricity production reached 19.49 TWh in the first four months of 2022, which is 5.8 % less compared to the same period in 2021. Production in thermal power plants decreased by 9.7 % and reached 6.98 TWh. Production in hydropower plants decreased by 23.8 % to 4.7 TWh, while electricity production in nuclear power plant Cernavoda increased by 3.5 % to 4.03 TWh. Production of wind power in January-April 2022 rose by 33.6 % compared to the same period of 2021, reaching 3.26 TWh. Solar power production reached 523.5 GWh, 13.2 % more compared to the first four months of 2021.
Electricity exports in January-April 2022 amounted to 2.02 TWh, which is by 6.5 % less compared to the same period in 2021. At the same time electricity imports increased by 3.1 % and amounted to 2.66 TWh.
Total production of primary energy resources in the first four months of 2022 amounted to 6,006 million tons of oil equivalent, which is 4.1 % less than in 2021. Coal production reached 939.7 million tons of oil equivalent (- 2.6 %), oil production reached 973.5 million tons of oil equivalent (- 6 %), while production of natural gas reached 2,376.4 million tons of oil equivalent (- 6.1 %).
