According to the data published by the National Institute for Statistics (INS), electricity consumption in Romania in the first seven months of 2022 amounted to 30.87 TWh, which is 4.9 % less compared to the same period in 2021.
The data shows that industrial electricity consumption reached 23.06 TWh, which is 4.1 % less compared to the same period last year. Household electricity consumption amounted to 7.48 TWh, which is a 7.9 % decrease. Public lighting consumption rose by 9.4 % amounting to some 333.2 GWh.
Total electricity production reached 33.04 TWh in the first seven months of 2022, which is 7.7 % less compared to the same period in 2021. Production in thermal power plants decreased by 1.4 % and reached 12.45 TWh. Production in hydropower plants decreased by 27 % to 8.79 TWh, while electricity production in nuclear power plant Cernavoda decreased by 0.9 % to 6.19 TWh. Production of wind power in January-July 2022 rose by 17.3 % compared to the same period of 2021, reaching 4.44 TWh. Solar power production reached 1.17 TWh, 7.1 % more compared to the first seven months of 2021.
Electricity exports in January-July 2022 amounted to 3.75 TWh, which is by 7.4 % less compared to the same period in 2021. At the same time electricity imports increased by 15.6 % and amounted to 4.75 TWh.
Total production of primary energy resources in the first seven months of 2022 amounted to 10,281 million tons of oil equivalent, which is 4.8 % less than in 2021. Coal production reached 1,747.4 million tons of oil equivalent (+ 2.2 %), oil production reached 1,710.4 million tons of oil equivalent (- 6.3 %), while production of natural gas reached 4,067 million tons of oil equivalent (- 4.9 %).
