According to the data by National Institute for Statistics (INS), electricity consumption in Romania in the first five months of 2016 amounted to 23.48 TWh, which is 11.1 % more compared to the same period in 2015.
The data show that industrial electricity consumption increased by 14.7 % to 18.09 TWh. On the other hand, households electricity consumption amounted to 5.12 TWh, which is an 0.9 % increase. Public lighting consumption decreased by 1.3 %, amounting to some 271 GWh.
The electricity resources in the first five months of 2016 totaled 29.3 TWh, which is 2.9 % more than in the same period in 2015. The production at thermal power plants has decreased by 2.8 % to 10.11 TWh. However, production at hydropower plants increased by 2 % to 8.79 TWh, while electricity production at nuclear power plant Cernavoda increased by 0.8 % to 4.67 TWh. The production of wind power increased by 8.4 % compared to the same period in 2015, reaching 2.94 TWh in the first five months of 2016. Solar power production increased by 21 % to 752.9 GWh.
Electricity exports in the in the period January-May 2016 amounted to 3.06 TWh, which is by 29.6 % (1.29 TWh) less compared to the same period last year. At the same time electricity imports increased by 35.5 % and amounted to 2.06 TWh, transmits Serbia-energy.eu
