Electricity consumption in Romania in the first two months of 2020 amounted to 9.53 TWh, which is 1.7 % less compared to the same period last year, according to the data published by the National Institute for Statistics (INS).
The data show that industrial electricity consumption reached 7.15 TWh, which is 3.2 % less compared to the same period last year. On the other hand, household electricity consumption amounted to 2.25 TWh, which is a 2.8 % increase. Public lighting consumption rose by 3.4 % amounting to some 117.5 GWh. Total electricity production reached 10.28 TWh in the first two months of 2020, which is 3.8 % less than in the same time last year. Production in thermal power plants decreased by 11.8 % and reached 4.45 TWh. Production in hydropower plants increased by 1.1 % to 2.16 TWh, while electricity production in nuclear power plant Cernavoda increased by 4.2 % to 2.04 TWh. Production of wind power remained approximately the same compared to January-February 2019 period, reaching 1.46 TWh. Solar power production increased by 18.9 % to 184.5 GWh. Electricity exports in the first two months of 2020 amounted to 1.01 TWh, which is almost two times higher compared to the same period last year. At the same time electricity imports increased by 77.3 % and amounted to 1.48 TWh. Total production of primary energy resources in January-February 2020 amounted to 3,290 million tons of oil equivalent, which is 1.5 % less than in the same period in 2019. Coal production reached 555.3 million tons of oil equivalent (- 5.9 %), oil production reached 546.3 million tons of oil equivalent (+ 0.3 %), while production of natural gas reached 1,326.9 million tons of oil equivalent (- 2.9 %).
