Austrian independent power producer Enery and Chinese solar technology manufacturer LONGi have signed a strategic agreement covering the development of 1.5 GW of solar and battery storage projects in Romania, reinforcing the country’s position as one of the fastest-growing renewable energy markets in South-East Europe.
The partnership will support projects scheduled for implementation between 2026 and 2027, with LONGi Solar Europe expected to supply roughly half of the equipment required across Enery’s Romanian renewable energy portfolio.
A central element of the cooperation is the Ogrezeni project, which will combine a 761 MW solar power plant with a battery energy storage system exceeding 1 GWh. The facility is expected to enter commercial operation in 2027 and is projected to generate enough electricity to meet the annual needs of approximately 684,000 households.
As part of the agreement, LONGi will deliver more than 1.1 million Hi-MO9 Back Contact solar modules for the project. The company says the technology offers conversion efficiencies of up to 24.8% and is designed to maintain strong performance over a 30-year operating life with limited degradation.
The Ogrezeni solar-plus-storage complex is expected to become one of the largest integrated renewable energy projects in Romania, highlighting the growing role of hybrid generation and storage assets in supporting grid flexibility, renewable integration and long-term energy security across the region.
The agreement also reflects a broader market trend in which large-scale renewable developments are increasingly being paired with battery storage systems, allowing developers to improve energy delivery profiles, reduce curtailment risks and capture greater value from electricity market volatility.
