Austrian renewable energy company Enery has started construction on a large-scale solar and battery storage complex in southern Romania, marking one of the biggest energy investments currently underway in the region. The project, located in Giurgiu County near Ogrezeni, is valued at more than €460 million and is set to become the largest solar development under construction in Romania.
The planned facility will include a solar power plant with an installed capacity of 750 MW, alongside a battery energy storage system exceeding 1 GWh in storage capability and a total installed capacity of 761 MW. Together, these components are designed to significantly boost renewable electricity generation while improving grid flexibility and stability.
Enery secured network connection approval for the project in 2023 and has positioned the development as a key step in combining large-scale solar production with advanced storage solutions. The integrated design will allow excess solar power to be stored and used when demand is higher or generation drops.
Once completed, the site is expected to rank among the largest hybrid solar-plus-storage installations in Romania and a major renewable energy hub in Southeastern Europe. Commercial operations are scheduled to begin in the summer of 2027, further strengthening Romania’s renewable capacity and supporting its energy transition goals.
