Eurowind Energy is moving closer to the construction of a 288 MW wind farm in Romania’s Iasi County, with the project approaching the final stages of permitting. The investment is estimated at around €450 million.
The wind farm is planned in the commune of Movileni and is being developed through Wind Asset. The project received technical approval for connection to Romania’s National Energy System in August 2025. Once the remaining permits are secured, construction is expected to take approximately three years.
The project will feature 40 Vestas wind turbines rated at 7.2 MW each. The planned configuration includes 30 V172 turbines with 172-meter rotor diameters and 10 V162 turbines with 162-meter rotors. Turbine heights are expected to range from approximately 221 to 252 meters, while the facility is designed for an operating life of 35 years.
Annual electricity generation is projected at 630,000–757,000 MWh, enough to cover the consumption of approximately 350,000–420,000 households. Electricity would be delivered to the national grid, while the current project design does not include battery energy storage.
The development will include two substations, including a 110/220 kV facility that is ultimately expected to be transferred to Romanian transmission system operator Transelectrica.
Three turbines planned within 500 meters of built-up areas will require additional assessments covering noise and shadow flicker. The closest turbine would be located approximately 253 meters from the boundary of Movileni village. Operating restrictions or turbine relocation could be required if the project fails to meet applicable regulatory thresholds.
Eurowind Energy has operated in Romania since 2011 and currently manages around 184 MW of renewable energy capacity in the country, including a 60 MW energy storage facility in Teius.
