Eurowind Energy Romania has reached a key milestone in its expansion strategy after securing construction permits for the Siminoc renewable energy project in Constanța County. The development marks the company’s first hybrid wind and solar facility in Romania and is expected to require an investment of approximately EUR 65 million.
The project is designed to integrate wind and solar generation at a single site, with nearly equal installed capacities for both technologies. Total capacity is planned at 49.6 MW, consisting of 24.8 MW from wind turbines and 24.8 MW from photovoltaic panels, creating a balanced hybrid energy system aimed at improving generation stability and efficiency.
Once operational, the facility is expected to produce around 120 GWh of electricity annually, sufficient to supply more than 50,000 households. The project has also secured support through Romania’s Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme, a Contracts for Difference designed to provide long-term price certainty and reduce investment risk for renewable energy developers.
With permitting now completed, Eurowind Energy Romania is preparing to advance the project into the construction phase. Work is currently scheduled to begin in 2027, while commercial operations are expected to start in 2028. Final decisions regarding turbine models, solar technology, and potential battery storage integration will be made during the procurement process.
The company views hybrid projects as a strategic solution for improving grid flexibility by combining different renewable generation profiles. In parallel, Eurowind is assessing additional energy storage options across its wider portfolio to better align production with demand and support the integration of renewable energy into the power system.
The Siminoc project is part of Eurowind Energy Romania’s broader development strategy, which targets the installation of 1 GW of renewable capacity in Romania by 2030, supported by investments estimated at around EUR 1 billion over the next four years.
