Finnish renewable energy investor Korkia has made a major breakthrough in expanding its presence in Romania after securing grid connection approvals for a large-scale solar and battery storage portfolio. The project cluster, located in Teleorman County, combines 320 MW of solar capacity with 303 MW of co-located energy storage.
The development, known as the Alexandria portfolio, is expected to be ready for network connection by 2028. The company stated that existing transmission infrastructure is sufficient to accommodate the planned capacity, meaning no additional grid upgrades will be required.
The portfolio includes three separate projects, all of which are moving toward construction readiness, a milestone expected by the end of 2026. The approvals were granted under the current regulatory framework, just ahead of planned reforms that will introduce competitive auctions for grid access. Securing permits at this stage reduces regulatory uncertainty and strengthens the project’s long-term viability.
Korkia entered the Romanian market in 2024, partnering with Econous Green Energy to establish its local development platform. The company is also advancing additional hybrid projects in Romania, which are currently awaiting grid approval, including storage capacities of 268 MW and 250 MW.
The Romanian portfolio forms part of Korkia’s broader strategy to expand across key European markets while developing large-scale integrated renewable energy and storage solutions that support long-term energy transition goals.
