Romania, Government assessing interest in 2023 RES auctions, SEE Energy News
The Romanian Government is seeking to assess the interest of renewable energy investors and developers in the renewable energy auctions scheduled for 2023, at the public call opened until 30 December 2022.
The proposed RES auctions are planned to be carried out as part of the country’s contract-for- difference (CfD) support mechanism that awards winners 15-year power purchase agreements (PPAs).
The first CfD auction is planned to be held in 2023. Reportedly, up to 750 MW of solar and 750 MW of wind will be on offer at the premiere auction, which is planned to be launched before the end of June. Eligible to bid will be proposals of at least 5 MW in size.
Romania aims to reach at least a 34 % share of renewables in total power production by 2030. It was upgraded earlier this year from the previous target of 30 %. In March, Romania launched a tender for 950 MW of fresh capacity, allocating a budget of some 460 million euros.
At the end of 2021, Romania had 11 GW of renewable power plants in operation, representing 56.5 % of its total operational installed capacity.
