Canadian renewables developer Grasshopper Energy has signed an agreement which supports the development of up to 1 GW in solar projects in Romania by 2030.
The deal signed with local entrepreneur Stefan Sturdza covers the development, construction and operation of solar projects in the country and would require investments of around 1 billion dollars.
Grasshopper Energy said that the partnership represents the first stage of its goal in helping Romania reach its renewables targets.
Having reached 1.4 GW of installed solar capacity at the end of 2020, Romania is aiming to reach 5.1 GW of solar capacity by 2030 as part of its efforts to generate 30.7 % of its energy consumption from renewable energy sources by the end of the decade.
