Hidroelectrica, Romania’s largest renewable electricity producer, has moved forward in expanding its solar energy portfolio by awarding a turnkey contract for the construction of the Tara Hategului solar power plant. The contract, valued at 4.9 million euros excluding VAT, follows a competitive tender that received four bids, with the winning offer submitted by a consortium of Electro-Alfa International and General ME.EL Electric, led by Electro-Alfa.
The planned solar facility will feature an installed capacity of 8.9 MW, expected to generate approximately 11 GWh of electricity annually. The project aims to increase the share of renewable output in Hidroelectrica’s portfolio, reduce carbon emissions, and support both Romania’s and the European Union’s energy transition goals.
Under the turnkey arrangement, the contractor will manage all stages of the project, including engineering design, procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, and technical support during the warranty period. The total project timeline spans 12 months, with two months dedicated to design and ten months for construction and commissioning.
Hidroelectrica currently operates more than 6.3 GW of installed hydropower capacity, along with the Crucea wind farm, remaining a cornerstone of Romania’s renewable energy sector and a key driver of regional decarbonization efforts in southeastern Europe.
