Romania’s largest renewable electricity producer Hidroelectrica has taken another step toward expanding its clean energy portfolio by signing a contract for the construction of the Tudor Vladimirescu solar power plant in Brăila County, a project designed to extend the company’s footprint beyond hydropower generation.
The project will be delivered under a full turnkey model and was awarded to Enevo Group following a competitive tender process. The agreement covers the entire development cycle, including engineering, equipment procurement, construction, and commissioning under an integrated EPC framework.
The contract value is approximately €30.4 million, slightly below the originally estimated budget of around €31.9 million (excluding VAT).
Once completed, the solar facility will have an installed capacity of 46 MW and is expected to generate roughly 59.2 GWh of electricity annually.
Project execution is planned over a 36-month period, while actual construction work is expected to take around two years.
The investment is part of Hidroelectrica’s broader strategy to diversify its renewable energy portfolio. The company currently operates Romania’s largest green electricity asset base, consisting of 188 hydropower plants and the Crucea wind farm. Its total installed capacity stands at approximately 6.5 GW, including the 108 MW Crucea wind project.
Beyond being Romania’s leading renewable power producer, Hidroelectrica also holds a dominant position in the country’s electricity supply market across both competitive and retail segments.
