The largest Romanian electricity producer Hidroelectrica, which offers the best prices to residential consumers in the electricity supply market, said that it has concluded over 300,000 new electricity supply contracts.

The company said that it receives some 5,000 requests per day from customers that will have to pay higher prices this winter for their consumption above 255 kWh per month. Hidroelectrica said that it will not refuse any residential customer as long as it can cover the demand through its production. However, it may be forced to refuse some industrial consumers.

Romanian households are accounted for about of a quarter of the country’s total electricity consumption.

This year’s severe drought impacted Hidroelectrica’s electricity generation, which dropped by 29 % year-on-year in the first half of 2022 to 7.18 TWh. In the first half of the year, Romanian household consumed 6.5 TWh of electricity.
