Romania, Hidroelectrica is considering the acquisition of three wind farms and one solar power plant
, SEE Energy NewsAccording to its business report for 2021, Romanian electricity producer Hidroelectrica is considering the acquisition of three wind farms and one solar power plant, which are in various stages of development.
Hidroelectrica submitted non-binding bids for the four projects in the last quarter of 2021. If the transactions are completed, the company would invest about 2.3 billion euros in these projects. In turn, the projects would generate 5 TWh of electricity per year, adding to the company’s average annual electricity production of 17 TWh.
In early 2021, Hidroelectrica acquired 108 MW Crucea wind farm from German STEAG. The acquisition is part of Hidroelectrica’s strategy to diversify its portfolio by acquiring other renewable energy production capacities. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. However, by comparing it to the previous Hidroelectrica’s wind acquisition from Vestas in 2019, when the company paid 136 million euros for 80 % stake in 160 MW wind farm, it is estimated that the deal with STEAG was worth around 100 million euros.
