Hydropower production in Romania rose by 2.4% this week compared to the previous one, despite the fact that combined production in the region (Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Bulgaria) has been at its lowest level in the past ten weeks, Platts said.
In Romania, last week, hydro power generation, mainly on Djerdap, amounted to 280 GWh, which is 2.4% more than the previous week. Reserves in accumulations increased by only 0.3%, reaching 1.62 TWh or 55.1% of capacity.
For this week, there is a slight increase in the level of the Danube in Romania, which will remain above the average level for February. Regarding the Balkan region, the situation is the opposite – it is expected that the level of production of hydropower plants will decrease, due to the reduction of the river level in the region.
Production in Serbia fell to a minimum in the last nine weeks, by 8.2% (224 GWh) despite the fact that it shares the hydroelectric power plant Djerdap with Romania. Hydro reserves in Serbia decreased by 3.5% compared to the previous week, to 463 GWh, although increased by 34% compared to the same period last year.
Platts predicts the level of the Danube in Serbia will be falling this week, but will be above the average level for this time of the year.
Hydro energy production in Slovakia last week was 107 GWh, which is 5.7% less than last week, but 78% more than last year.
Hydropower production in Bulgaria also fell by 23%, to 41 GWh, which is the lowest level in the last 10 weeks. However, this is 68% more than in the same period last year. Hydro reserves increased by 0.8% compared to the previous week at 1.66 TWh, which is 68% more than the same period last year.
