Iași Airport has signed a contract with Strabag Romania for the design and construction of a new solar power plant with battery energy storage system.
The project is valued at approximately €3.7 million (excluding VAT) and will include a solar installation with an installed capacity of 4.42 MW. Electricity will be converted through 21 string inverters, providing a combined AC capacity of 3.15 MW. The system will also feature a battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of 4.73 MWh.
The solar facility will cover an area of around 58,500 square meters and will be integrated into the airport’s existing electrical infrastructure. In addition to generation and storage assets, the project will include transformers, internal electrical networks, security systems, a meteorological station, SCADA equipment, and other supporting infrastructure.
According to the contract, implementation will take place in two phases. The design stage is expected to last three months, followed by seven months of construction.
Once completed, the system will supply a portion of the airport’s electricity demand through on-site renewable generation, improving energy efficiency and reducing reliance on external power sources.
