Romania: Only China Nuclear Power Corp expressed interest for construction of new units in Cernavoda NPP, SEE Energy News
The Chinese company China Nuclear Power Corporation was the only one to submit the documentation for participation in the construction of reactors 3 and 4 at Cernavoda confirmed from Nuclearelectrica.
“We have completed an intermediate stage in the process of investors’ qualification, which is to ensure that the partner understands the business and it has the capability to run this project. We chose a partner who also have technical and financial capacity. During this stage we have selected those who will have access to the data room on Units 3 and 4 project,” Daniela Lulache GM from Nuclearelectrica said for Serbia-Energy.eu.
She also said that China General Nuclear Power Corporation has 11 nuclear units operating 11,620 MW, another 15,000 MW worth capacities under construction, a turnover of EUR 4.25 billion and EUR 37.49 billion worth assets.
“These are significant and sufficient elements to consider this company as a reliable partner. Till September 24, they will have access to the data room, and will submit a final offer and a letter of intent. We estimate that by the end of the year a project company there will be established that will build the reactors 3 and 4,” general manager of Nuclearelectrica added.
She said that the state could provide some form of support mechanisms for the project, such as contracts for difference, which would mean that the state would cover the difference between the price of energy sold in advance and the market reference price at a certain time. Nuclearelectrica official also stressed the fact that Chinese investors have not asked for any derogation from EU law.
The construction of reactors 3 and 4 at Cernavoda is a project currently evaluated at EUR 6.45 billion. The feasibility study which determined the needed investment is still subject to further reviews.
