The average electricity price on the day-ahead market of the Romanian energy exchange OPCOM reached 109.56 euros/MWh in May 2026. This represents a 27.55% increase compared to the same month in 2025 and a 14.66% rise compared to April, when the average baseload price stood at 95.55 euros/MWh.
Trading activity declined over the month, with total volume on the day-ahead market amounting to 1.11 million MWh. This is 6.21% lower than in May 2025 and 2.47% lower than in April. The average traded volume during May 2026 was 1,493.5 MWh/h, reflecting slightly reduced market activity.
Despite lower volumes, the total value of transactions increased, reaching 120.3 million euros. This is 10.76% higher compared to May last year (108.6 million euros) and 4.58% higher than in the previous month (115.1 million euros), indicating stronger price effects across the market.
The share of the day-ahead market in forecasted net consumption in May 2025 stood at 33.3%, highlighting its continued relevance in overall electricity demand coverage.
On the intraday market, a total of 135,605.8 MWh was traded in May, marking a 32.79% decrease compared to May 2025 and an 8.11% drop from April. However, prices moved sharply upward, with the average intraday price reaching 99.01 euros/MWh, which is 24.95% higher year-on-year and a significant 76.23% increase compared to the previous month.
