Romania’s prosumer solar market continued its rapid growth toward the end of 2025, with nearly 290,000 registered prosumers and installed capacity surpassing 3.3 GW, according to the national energy regulator ANRE.
By November, the country counted just under 288,000 prosumers, combining for 3.35 GW of generation capacity. This reflects annual growth of almost 48% in participants and more than 43% in installed capacity, illustrating the rapid spread of rooftop and on-site solar across Romania. Households dominate numerically, with around 258,000 prosumers, while companies, public institutions, and other legal entities make up just over 30,000. In terms of capacity, however, residential and non-residential segments are nearly equal: households account for 1.67 GW, and commercial/institutional systems total about 1.68 GW.
The transformation has been dramatic. At the end of 2019, Romania had only a few hundred prosumers nationwide. Total installed prosumer capacity surpassed 3 GW for the first time in August 2025.
Energy storage is also increasingly common. By November, more than 58,000 installations included batteries, mostly in households, meaning over one in five residential prosumers now combine solar panels with storage, enhancing network flexibility and self-sufficiency. Industry estimates suggest Romania’s total solar capacity, including large power plants, exceeded 7 GW in 2025, highlighting the country’s rise as one of the fastest-growing solar markets in the region.
