The prices of electricity for households and industrial consumers in Romania are set to grow in the next decades, according to Romania’s energy strategy, which covers the 2016-2030 period, with an outlook to 2050, Business Review reports
The strategy, which has been put up for public debate, notes that the price of electricity of the wholesale market will grow from EUR 30 per MWh at present, to an average level of EUR 65 – EUR 85 per MWh in the 2030-2050 period.
“The factors that will determine the evolution of prices are the capital costs from the electricity production technologies, the fuel, the modernization and overhaul of the transport and distribution infrastructure with the ETS certificates for GES (green gas emissions – e.n.),” according to the document.
According to the strategy, the estimated wholesale price of electricity will amount to around EUR 80/MWh for 2030-2050, but it could be lower if the costs are reduced.
Under this pricing scenario, industrial consumers will end up paying EUR 87 per MWh in 2030 from EUR 67 at this moment, while for households, the prices are set to grow by 50 percent to EUR 195 per MWh in the same period.
The authors of the strategy point out that the incomes of households will go up in this period, so the share of the electricity in total costs is set to remain unchanged.
