Romgaz has opened a public procurement procedure for site management services to oversee the completion and commissioning of its 430 MW gas-fired power plant in Iernut, a project that has faced repeated delays since construction began nearly a decade ago.
The contract, valued at nearly 4 million euros excluding VAT, is intended to manage the final phase of works before the facility becomes operational. Bids can be submitted until 10 March 2026, with the evaluation process expected to conclude by 19 May.
Originally scheduled for completion in 2020, the combined-cycle power plant now carries a revised commissioning deadline of 31 December 2026. The 269 million euros investment is currently around 98% finished, leaving only the final technical and operational stages to be executed. This timeline extension aligns with a Government decision at the end of 2025, allowing projects financed through non-reimbursable funds to be finalized by the end of 2026, with reimbursement of eligible expenses continuing until 30 June 2027.
Once completed, the Iernut facility is expected to strengthen Romania’s domestic electricity generation capacity, providing flexible gas-based output to complement renewable energy sources and enhance system stability.
