Rompetrol Rafinare has completed the mechanical phase of its scheduled maintenance program at the Petromidia Năvodari and Vega Ploiești refineries, marking a key step toward returning both facilities to normal operating levels after a complex turnaround process. The company stated that the restart will now proceed gradually over the coming days, with production units being brought back online in stages under strict safety and operational control procedures.
The maintenance campaign included a wide range of technical works across both refineries. In total, more than 700 individual tasks were completed, including the replacement of catalysts in six major process units. The turnaround also involved detailed inspections of around 900 pieces of equipment, covering static, rotating, and electrical systems, as well as the testing and verification of nearly 1,200 pipelines.
In parallel with the engineering works, the company achieved another important milestone by renewing and extending key operating certifications issued by Romanian authorities, including ISCIR and CNCIR. With the turnaround entering its final phase, both refineries are expected to gradually resume supplying petroleum products to the market, which is seen as especially important in the current context for both producers and consumers.
The shutdown was conducted as part of Rompetrol Rafinare’s regular maintenance schedule, which includes major turnarounds every four years and intermediate stoppages every two years. According to the company, these planned interventions are essential for ensuring safe operations, maintaining technological reliability, and complying with environmental standards.
