A major financing package aimed at strengthening gas infrastructure has been secured in Romania, with authorities confirming new support from the World Bank Group.
Energy Minister Bogdan Ivan announced that the country has obtained 500 million dollars to advance upgrades and expand the national gas transmission system. The agreement brings together the Romanian Finance Ministry, the transmission operator Transgaz, and the World Bank, marking a coordinated effort to modernize key energy infrastructure.
The arrangement was revealed during the 2026 Spring Meetings held in Washington, where a Romanian delegation led by Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare took part in high-level discussions with international partners. The talks focused on long-term investment priorities and energy system resilience.
The funding is expected to support extensive modernization and expansion works within the gas network, improving energy security and increasing system efficiency as Romania continues to develop and strengthen its national energy infrastructure.
