Romania: Temporarily shut down of Unit 1 of NPP Cernavoda
, SEE Energy NewsIn order to carry out some remediation works due to the occurrence of a dysfunctionality on the conventional/secondary technological circuit of unit 1, Electricity producer Nuclearelectrica, the operator of Romania’s sole nuclear power plant Cernavoda, announced that unit 1 of the plant will be shut down in a controlled manner, on Friday to Saturday night (15-16 January). The power reduction will start on 16 January at 00:00.
The controlled shutdown of NPP Cernavoda’s unit 1 is performed according to the procedures applicable in case of such events and is necessary in order to allow the plant’s staff to perform the remediation works under safety conditions given the fact that the working fluid (demineralized water) is at high temperature and pressure. The failure occurred at the conventional technological circuit of unit 1 and the related remediation works do not have any adverse impact on the nuclear safety, the environment, the personnel or the population.
