SEE region: Balkans hydro output rises in April

, News Serbia Energy

Hydropower production in the Balkans increased in the last week of March and the first week of April, driven by higher output in Romania.

Combined hydropower production in Romania, Serbia, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia totaled 1.24 TWh in the week ending April 9, 13% higher than two weeks earlier and returning to early-March highs.

Higher production in Romania, Slovenia and Croatia accounted for much of the relatively small overall increase in the last week of March. In the following week output in Romania rose to near-two-year highs.

Higher output in Bulgaria and rising Danube flows in Serbia also added to the overall increase, even as production in other countries fell during the week.

Hydroelectric reserves in the region continued to rise, reaching a ten-month high 5.5 TWh, well above last year’s corresponding level.
