One generator of the reversible hydropower plant “Bajina Basta” is back in operation, following a major overhaul of the input-output system, the revitalization of the spherical gates of both generators and the repair of the slanted pipeline of the power plant, announced Serbian power utility EPS.
– That means another 300 MW on the grid, which will contribute to the energy security of Serbia in the time of probably an unprecedentedly long heat wave that has affected our country – the general manager of EPS, Dusan Zivkovic, said in Bajina Basta.
– The bringing back of one generator on the grid here in Bajina Basta, aside from additional production, will also contribute to the optimization of the production capacities so that we would secure additional quantities of electricity at the most favourable conditions – said Zivkovic. He added that the works on the revitalization of the generator R1 were being done simultaneously.
The head of EPS reminded that the revitalization of Serbia’s only reversible hydropower plant had begun after 42 years of operations and that it could not have been delayed any longer.
– The works on the first generator will be completed at the end of November, and next year we are looking at the revitalization of the second generator – announced Zivkovic.
