Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that Serbia is negotiating with the partners from the Middle East about the possibility of crude oil imports, which will be delivered through the Albanian port of Durres as an alternative.
Currently, Serbian oil company NIS is getting crude oil through Omisalj terminal in Croatia. However, since NIS is majority owned by Russian GazpromNeft, it is still not clear whether the possible EU sanctions against Russian oil companies would be valid for NIS as well, or the company would be exempted.
Therefore, Serbia is looking for alternative route for crude oil supply. The downside of Durres is the lack of pipeline, which means that oil would have to be transported by truck to Pancevo refinery.
