Serbia will start works to expand the Banatski Dvor natural gas storage facility in October, according to Dusan Bajatovic, head of natural gas importer and distributor Srbijagas.
The expansion works are expected to be completed in 18 months, Bajatovic said in an interview with public broadcaster RTS, adding that necessary agreements on the development have been signed.
He noted the Banatski Dvor facility is full to capacity, while Serbia also has 163 million cubic meters of gas stored in a leased facility in Hungary.
In 2019, Srbijagas and Russia’s Gazprom signed a memorandum of understanding on a project for the expansion of Banatski Dvor’s capacity by 300 mcm to 750 mcm and doubling of the maximum withdrawal capacity up to 10 mcm per day.
Bajatovic added that the price of natural gas for households will remain the same at least until January 1. Srbijagas last changed prices for households in November 2023, raising them by 10% to 0.042 euro per kWh, excluding taxes and fees.
