The Ministry of Mining has decided that, following a conducted tender procedure, the task of developing the Resource Management Strategy in Serbia for the period 2025 to 2040 will be awarded to the Mining and Geological Faculty in Belgrade.
The contract’s value is 25 million dinars, and the Mining Faculty was the sole bidder.
The proposed strategy should cover the period from 2025 to 2040, with projections extended to the year 2050. Alongside the strategy, the development of an Action Plan for the implementation of the Strategy (including a Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment) is required.
The strategy will define measures and activities to be undertaken to achieve long-term strategic goals in the field of geological research and valorization of all types of resources and reserves of mineral raw materials and other geological resources. It will also establish hydrogeological and engineering-geological-geotechnical conditions for the use of the geological environment in the process of planning, designing, and constructing all types of facilities – as stated in the tender.
The future document is intended to define the current state, general and specific development goals of the mining sector, as well as measures that will contribute to the achievement of these goals.
Among other things, the strategy needs to determine the level of exploration of the territory of the Republic of Serbia, analyze the needs and projections of basic geological research, examine the impact of mineral resource exploitation, and provide guidelines for environmental protection.
The contractor will have a deadline of 24 months for the development of the strategy.
