Public Enterprise Electric Power Industry of Serbia (EPS) and General Electric Power (GE Power) signed the procurement contract for turbine for unit A4 in Thermal Power Plant “Nikola Tesla” in Obrenovac that will bring significant savings and increase the safety of electricity generation.
This 19.9 million euros contract was signed by Milorad Grčić, Acting Director of Electric Power Industry of Serbia and Dariusz Kowalewski, Sales Manager for Retrofit Systems in General Electric Power. EPS selected the best bid in an open and transparent public procurement procedure thus getting three million euros lower price.
– Operation of unit А4 will be extended by a new life cycle after 250,000 hours of operation, simultaneously increasing the capacity of unit by 24 megawatts with the new turbine. Financial savings through less coal consumption and higher efficiency of the unit will amount to about six million euros annually – said Milorad Grčić, Acting Director of Electric Power Industry of Serbia at the contract signing. – EPS will continue with modernization and revitalization of capacities that will increase the stability of electricity supply, all in accordance with the guidelines of the Serbian Government, for the purpose of making EPS more modern and efficient.
Savo Bezmarević, Executive Director for Electricity Generation in EPS said that together with the previous 3 modernizations of units, after revitalization of unit A4, the capacity of TPP “Nikola Tesla A” will be increased by about 120 megawatts.
– The most important part of revitalization, that we will perform in 2017, will be the installation of new more efficient turbine, that can operate in the district heating mode. After this revitalization the deadlines for general overhauls of the unit will be extended from five to 10 years – said Bezmarević.
Stefan Turnher, Sales Manager in General Electric Power for Central Europe, pointed out that the new turbine will largely contribute to sustainable electricity supply in Serbia, and with more efficient steam turbine coal consumption will be less and it will also reduce greenhouse gas emission.
– EPS not only improves its business operation with this investment but it also largely contributes to environmental protection improvement. We hope that General Electric and EPS will successfully continue their cooperation – said Turnher, transmits Serbia-energy.eu
