Dusan Zivkovic, acting Director of power utility EPS said that Investing in the renovation of existing and the construction of new facilities utilizing renewable energy sources is the cornerstone of the strategic development of the company. Speaking at the Energetika 2023 conference, he said that EPS has full support from the Government. Zivkovic emphasized that EPS is preparing new wind and solar energy projects and continues developing ongoing renewable energy projects.
Currently, there is intense work on the construction of the 680 MW pump-storage hydropower plant Bistrica. HPP Bistrica will provide balance and stability to the system, not only in Serbia but also in the region, and it is a crucial precondition for a higher share of green energy in the country.
He added that coal-based energy is Serbia’s base energy, and is confident that its contribution will be equally significant for the security and stability of the system, as well as for the safe and reliable supply of electricity to consumers.
Therefore, one of EPS’ priorities in the coming period will be the modernization of coal mining and coal-based capacities, with a special focus on improving environmental protection because it is a business imperative for the years ahead. Zivkovic highlighted that the company is undergoing a legal transformation after decades of waiting, and the goal of these reforms is to ensure that EPS operates successfully and profitably.
