Serbia mining:Copper foundry investment and copper production attracts Chile Codelko and US Freeport Mcmoran
, MiningConstruction of the new foundry and factory of sulfur acid in Bor attracted attention of two most powerful corporations in the world- Chilean Codelko and US Freeport.
Representatives of these companies talked to the management of Mining and Smelting Basin Bor about possibilities for capacity increase of new metallurgy aggregate with 80 projected thousand tons of copper yearly to 100 up to 110 thousand tons.
Managing Director of MSB Bor, Blagoje Spaskovski, stated to Tanjug that the capacity of new piro-metallurgy facility that is being constructed can be increased if projected quality of copper concentrate is increased from 22% to 28% of copper content in concentrate.
He adds that there are no other possibilities because all equipment for new foundry has already arrived in Bor. According to his word, MSB Bor is interested in expansion of capacities this way, but Serbian Government needs to make this decision.
American Company Freeport has discovered rich copper site near Bor’s Airport and if it decides for mine opening at this place, the most economical way of procession would be in Bor’s foundry.
MSB Bor says that other Company, Chilean Kodelko, has similar wishes but also to cooperate in finding the best methods for mining’s body Borska Reka excavation.
