Serbia mining:Rich Deposits of Copper in Bor confirmed, new exploration layers assessment

At the beginning of the research in 2009 in Jama richest ore body “T” revealed, which is exploited for less than three years and gave a profit of over $ 40 million. Geological surveys that RTB conducted since 2009 have shown that in the new deposits that are found, there are copper ore worth more than a billion dollars, and soon will also begin research in the area next to Knjazevac, in the district between Minic and Novo Korito.

“The total value of the metal in the newly discovered deposits is exceeding one billion dollars, which means that studies fully met expectations,” said Head of the Department of Geology of the copper mine Bor Trajce Toncic.

He explains that at the beginning of the research in 2009, richest ore body “T” was discovered in Jama, that was excavated in less than three years and brought a profit of over $ 40 million.

“Then we discovered two new “T1” and “T2″ whose exploitation begun this year, and it is about 700,000 tons of ore with an average copper content of 1.7 percent,” said Toncic. He says that the research went along on the surface, and also was discovered deposit “Kriveljski kamen” with reserves of 75 million tons of medium copper ore of 0.26 percent.

“The total value of the metal in the newly discovered deposits exceeding one billion dollars, which means that studies fully met expectations,” says Toncic.

In the Mining and Smelting Complex Bor in 2009, along with mining equipment and modernization of flotation, began extensive geological researches in order to find a new deposits with the higher content of copper, as well as to provide more than 60 thousand tons of concentrate per year, as it is necessary for work of new smelter .

So far it is invested around five million euros in the purchase of modern drilling and other equipment.

Earlier this year came the two latest and most powerful machines that RTB ever had, which can reach a depth of 2.8 kilometers. One of them explores the environment of the ore body Kriveljski kamen, while the other works in Majdanpek. In the copper plant were satisfied with achieved results.

The procedure for getting the rights for investigating the landscape around Knjazevac is also in the final phase, on the space between the Minic and Novo Korito. All approvals of the relevant ministry are obtained, and for ten days the decision is expected, after which we will go further in a three-year geological survey, said in RTB Bor.
