NIS, Serbia’s national oil company, has applied for a renewed special permit from the US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) in order to continue operating after the current authorization expires. The existing license, issued on 20 February, is set to lapse on 20 March, prompting the company to request an additional waiver.
In its submission to US authorities, NIS highlighted the significance of uninterrupted operations for Serbia’s economy and energy sector. The company stressed that stable activity at NIS is particularly important amid heightened global energy market uncertainty and ongoing shifts in the international oil industry.
The request also points to ongoing discussions regarding a potential restructuring of the company’s ownership. According to NIS, negotiations on this issue are well advanced, which the company believes further supports the case for maintaining operational continuity while the process unfolds.
In a public statement, NIS expressed appreciation for the support it has received from domestic institutions and international partners. The company noted that such cooperation is essential to ensure it can continue functioning normally and contribute to the stability of Serbia’s energy system.
