NIS has submitted a renewed request to the US Treasury Department seeking a special permit that would let it continue normal business operations after its current authorization expires on 20 February.
In its filing, the company emphasized its strategic importance to Serbia’s economy, noting that uninterrupted operations are closely tied to national energy supply, jobs, and public revenues. NIS also stated that talks over a possible change in its ownership structure are ongoing and that more time is required for stakeholders to finalize any arrangements.
Previously, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued a temporary license allowing shareholders and related parties to negotiate ownership adjustments. That license is valid until 24 March 2026 and was designed to support a regulated transition process. By requesting an extension of its operating clearance, NIS is aiming to maintain business continuity while negotiations continue, and it voiced appreciation for the support received from domestic and international institutions during this period of regulatory uncertainty.
