In July 2024, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) recorded a gross electricity production of 663 GWh, marking a 5.4% increase compared to the 629 GWh produced in July 2023.
The breakdown of electricity production shows that thermal power plants were the primary contributors, accounting for 68.17% of the total output, followed by hydropower plants with a 28.51% share, and wind farms contributing 3.32%. Net electricity production for the month stood at 613 GWh, with thermal power plants generating 403 GWh, hydropower plants producing 188 GWh, and wind farms adding 22 GWh.
Electricity imports surged to 138 GWh in July 2024, a significant increase compared to just 25 GWh in the same month last year. Conversely, electricity exports decreased to 82 GWh, down from 175 GWh in July 2023.
In terms of coal production, FBiH saw a mixed performance. Brown coal output dropped by 17.4% to 333,008 tons, compared to 403,222 tons produced in July 2023. On the other hand, lignite production increased by 7.6%, reaching 127,793 tons compared to 118,786 tons in the same period last year. However, coke production experienced a substantial decline, falling by 29.4% to 43,221 tons, down from 61,223 tons produced in July 2023.
These figures reflect the evolving dynamics in FBiH’s energy sector, with an overall increase in electricity production, but notable declines in certain key areas of coal and coke production.
