In July 2024, Bulgaria’s energy sector showed varied trends across different resources. Electricity production surged by 42.1% from June, reaching 3,500 GWh, while electricity consumption rose by 10.7% to 2,762 GWh. In contrast, natural gas consumption fell by 15.8% to 154 million cubic meters, with production remaining steady at 1 million cubic meters.
Year-on-year comparisons reveal that electricity production increased by 4.3% and consumption by 4% compared to July 2023. However, natural gas consumption dropped by 14% over the same period.
In the fuels sector, production of unleaded petrol decreased by 2.1% to 140,000 tons, while consumption decreased slightly by 1.7% to 57,000 tons. Diesel production held steady at 299,000 tons, but consumption jumped by 27% to 259,000 tons.
Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) saw a significant rise in both production, which increased by 8.3% to 13,000 tons, and consumption, which grew by 23.1% to 48,000 tons.
Lastly, solid fuels production surged 2.6 times, reaching 1,465 thousand tons, and consumption increased 2.5 times to 1,503 thousand tons.
Overall, July 2024 illustrated a complex landscape in Bulgaria’s energy production and consumption, with notable growth in electricity and solid fuels, alongside shifts in gas and fuel usage.
