A senior delegation from the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) visited Bulgaria to participate in “Sustainable Nuclear Innovations,” a platform dedicated to discussing the future of the country’s nuclear energy program. Held on June 27 at the Technical University of Sofia, the event brought together Bulgarian and European experts to explore innovation and the role of education in advancing nuclear energy.
NEA Director-General William D. Magwood IV delivered a keynote address, emphasizing the critical role of innovation in the nuclear sector. He highlighted NEA initiatives such as the Global Forum for Nuclear Innovation (GFNI) and the NEA Global Forum on Nuclear Education, Science, Technology, and Policy, which focus on revitalizing nuclear innovation.
Dr. Tatiana Ivanova, Head of the NEA Division of Science and Education, participated in a panel on nuclear innovation, discussing how the NEA is fostering advancements in nuclear science and education to address growing energy demands.
The NEA also hosted an interactive side event, the Young Generation Nuclear Innovation Workshop, engaging over 30 students from across Europe in activities that promoted innovative strategies for sustainable nuclear power. Additionally, the NEA delegation held bilateral meetings with Bulgarian academic, industry, regulatory, and research experts to strengthen collaboration and enhance nuclear energy initiatives.
