Distributie Energie Electrica Romania (DEER) has launched a public tender for the procurement of 1.1 million smart meters, with a maximum value of €74.3 million. This move is part of DEER’s broader strategy to accelerate investments in smart metering technology.
The initiative is supported by European funding from the Modernization Fund and encompasses five key projects:
- North Muntenia Area: Implementation of a smart electricity metering system in county seat cities, including Galati, Braila, Focsani, Ploiesti, and Targoviste.
- Southern Transylvania Area: Installation of smart metering systems in county seat cities, such as Brasov, Sibiu, Targu Mures, Alba Iulia, and Miercurea Ciuc.
- North Transylvania Area: Deployment of smart meters in county seat cities, including Cluj-Napoca, Oradea, Zalau, and Baia Mare.
- Rasinari Commune, Sibiu County: Modernization of electricity distribution networks.
- Moreni, Dambovita County: Upgrading the 110/20/10 kV Moreni substation and switching to a 20 kV network.
DEER oversees an extensive electricity distribution network with approximately 3.9 million metered consumption sites of various technologies. The company aims to transition 35% of its total users to smart meters by 2028 and plans to finance the integration of the remaining users through non-refundable funds.
