In the week of September 9, solar energy production saw an overall increase across the French, Italian, and Spanish markets compared to the previous week. The French market experienced the most significant rise, with a 32% increase. Italy’s solar energy production grew by 5.0%, while Spain, including both solar photovoltaic and solar thermal energy, saw a 1.3% increase. Conversely, Germany and Portugal faced declines, with solar energy generation dropping by 36% in Germany and 4.3% in Portugal. Notably, Spain achieved its second consecutive week of growth in solar production, whereas Germany saw its second consecutive week of declines.
During this week, the Spanish, Italian, and French markets set historical records for solar production in September. On September 9, Spain achieved its highest daily solar photovoltaic energy production for any September, totaling 176 GWh. Italy followed with its record on September 10, producing 104 GWh, while France set its record on September 15 with 107 GWh.
Looking ahead to the third week of September, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting predicts an increase in solar energy production in Germany, while declines are expected in Italy and Spain.
In the week of September 9, wind energy production also increased across major European markets. Italy saw the most remarkable surge, with a 286% increase, generating nearly three times more wind energy than the previous week. The French market experienced an 88% increase, Germany saw a 47% rise, and Spain had a 40% increase. Portugal recorded the smallest increase at 7.8%.
On September 13, Italy achieved a historical wind energy production record for any September, with a generation of 165 GWh. For the week of September 16, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting forecasts a decline in wind energy production in Italy, the Iberian Peninsula, and France, while Germany is expected to see a rise, AleaSoft reports.
