Greece’s Environment and Energy Ministry has initiated a public consultation on its updated National Plan on Energy and Climate, which will be open until September 16. The consultation invites citizens, businesses and organizations to provide feedback through an online portal.
The revised plan aims to minimize the costs of the energy transition by emphasizing cost-effective, mature interventions that benefit the national economy. This updated strategy is designed to align with European Union targets while reducing energy costs for Greek residents.
The original National Plan, launched in 2019, exceeded targets for renewable energy adoption and greenhouse gas emissions reduction. The new plan sets ambitious targets, including a 58.6% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and sourcing 77% of electricity from renewable energy within the next decade.
Environment and Energy Minister Thodoros Skylakakis described the revised plan as a comprehensive roadmap toward climate neutrality by 2050, with key milestones set for 2030. He highlighted the focus on environmental protection and consumer benefits, particularly through initiatives aimed at reducing emissions and lowering energy costs. Deputy Minister Alexandra Sdoukou emphasized the plan’s cost-effectiveness and encouraged public participation in the consultation process, looking forward to integrating valuable feedback into the final plan.
