Romanian electricity transmission system operator Transelectrica has reported significant progress on the construction of the 220 kV double circuit transmission line connecting Ostrovu Mare to RET. This line is essential for evacuating energy from the Portile de Fier 2 hydropower plant.
Spanning approximately 31 kilometers and featuring 105 poles, the transmission line traverses five administrative units in Mehedinti County. As of now, 104 foundations have been completed, bringing the project’s physical completion to 75%. The most challenging phase of the construction is currently underway, particularly the section crossing the Gogosu Branch of the Danube River.
The execution contract for the project, valued at 9.8 million euros, was signed in March 2023, with construction commencing in May 2023. The anticipated completion date for the project is May 2025.
Transelectrica’s transmission network covers approximately 9,140 kilometers of 400 kV, 220 kV, and 110 kV overhead lines, along with 81 transformer stations. Over the past six years, the company has added more than 400 kilometers of new 400 kV overhead lines, and plans to construct an additional 740 kilometers of high-voltage overhead lines by 2030, with a total investment exceeding 380 million euros.
