In response to rising global crude oil prices, the Serbian Government has introduced a temporary reduction in excise duties on several petroleum products. The measure will remain in force until 15 April and is intended to mitigate the impact of higher fuel costs on consumers and the economy.
Under the new decision, excise taxes on gasoline and diesel have been lowered by 20% compared to the rates in effect since mid-February 2026. The adjustment applies to leaded and unleaded petrol as well as gas oil.
Following the reduction, the revised excise levels stand at 0.52 euros/liter for leaded petrol, 0.49 euros/liter for unleaded petrol, and 0.5 euros/liter for diesel. Before the change, the state collected significantly higher duties: 0.65 euros/liter for leaded petrol, 0.61 euros/liter for unleaded petrol, and 0.63 euros/liter for diesel.
The Government explained that the decision was prompted by increased producer prices for petroleum derivatives, driven by the recent rise in crude oil prices worldwide.
The measure does not affect all fuel types. The excise duty on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) remains unchanged at 0.48 euros per kilogram and is not included in the temporary reduction.
