Serbian energy authorities confirmed that the US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has granted a 30-day extension to the operating authorization of NIS, allowing the firm to continue business activities until 20 March.
Dubravka Đedović, Minister of Mining and Energy, explained that the temporary renewal enables NIS to maintain crude oil deliveries, process feedstock at its Pančevo refinery, and ensure uninterrupted distribution of petroleum products across the domestic market. She noted that further diplomatic engagement is ongoing, including talks with Russian counterparts and upcoming meetings in Washington, as Serbian officials work to address the sanctions framework affecting the company.
Meanwhile, negotiations between Gazprom Neft and Hungary’s MOL Group continue, with Serbia participating to secure long-term stability and safeguard national interests tied to NIS operations.
According to Minister Đedović, the domestic fuel market has remained stable despite earlier disruptions. She recalled that crude oil supplies to Serbia were interrupted for nearly 100 days late last year, yet no shortages occurred. Authorities are working toward a durable arrangement that protects consumers and preserves the strategic importance of NIS, while maintaining transparency regarding future developments.
