The Borzen, in collaboration with energy exchange operator BSP, has concluded the sixth round of public auctions for electricity from the Šoštanj thermal power plant, marking the second tender for 2027 deliveries.
The auction covered baseload electricity supply for the first quarter of 2027 (1 January–31 March). Four bidders competed for six separate lots, each representing a defined electricity volume for a set delivery period. HSE won four of the six lots, while GEN-I and Dynasty Power Europe each secured one. Winning bids ranged between €103.20 and €105.42/MWh.
In parallel, a separate auction was held for the purchase of emission allowances required for TPP Šoštanj operations between February and April 2027. Six companies participated, with GEN-I offering the lowest price on three lots, Trafigura PTE winning two, and HSE securing one. Clearing prices for the allowances ranged narrowly between €72.63 and €72.78 per European Union Allowance (EUA).
Under the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS), each EUA permits the holder to emit one ton of CO₂ or its greenhouse gas equivalent, making these allowances a key operational cost driver for coal-fired electricity generation.
